The World

Fiamme Eterne is set in the small planet of Summa, rotating lonely around its sun. Summa has a single moon and a planetary ring, from which debris very rarely detaches and hits the surface, with little to no damage. A sample of such debris has been found to contain traces of Psichelite, fueling folklore and religious beliefs.

Among the lands of Summa, three names are relevant to the story.

Kingdom of Himmelheit

The foggy lands of Himmelheit are mostly inhabited by Fogelians, who also make up the royal family. Its current ruler, King Nibbio Habichtar IV, holds absolute power over the capital of Altenwolk and its provinces, although they are directly administered by his five dukes. His wife fell ill tending to matters of the Eighteen Years' War, then died due to complications before she ever saw its end.

Himmelheit consists of wide plains covered by rivers, which contribute to its humid climate, together with the looming presence of mountains enclosing the nation. Most towns and cities are located at sea level, although there's no shortage of high-altitude settlements.

Altenwolk is one of the aforementioned, located at the top of Mount Fohn in the southwestern part of Himmelheit. The city is divided into layers: the first is the commercial district, then comes the residential district, then the Royal Palace stands on the very top. People and goods come and go from the city either through lifts, directly connected to the base of the mountain, or through elevated trains stopping at the station.

The rail network makes Altenwolk easy to access from any major city in the country, and connects it to minor towns and points of interest. However, the Himmelian transport services have been underfunded for years due to the ongoing war, and the reliability of its trains is commonly mocked at best, cursed at worst, by all its usual clients.

Vallendeur Empire

As Fogelians do in Himmelheit, Reptides dwell in the much warmer and inviting lands of Vallendeur. A council of nine senators supports its current ruler, Emperor Boa Loubridés VI, from his palace in the capital of Colemannes.

Located south from Himmelheit, its green hills and a better exposure to winds give Vallendeur a drier and more temperate climate. Its agricultural produce is especially exquisite, and many farms color the landscapes of its countryside.

Minor and Major Astraea

Major Astraea is an island far out at sea, ruled by the Heavens Church. Its population consists almost exclusively of Therials.

The Heavens Church believes that "We all came from the stars, and to the stars we shall go back". Traces of Psichelite found in space debris further reinforce this dogma.

Once holding a tremendous power over the other nations, around the year CV 600 the Heavens Church had definitely lost all its influence except on a stretch of land called Minor Astraea, separating Himmelheit and Vallendeur. Nowadays, the Church is mostly concerned with looking at the night skies in search of something more, detached from earthly matters.

Far from being economically independent, Minor Astraea sports an abundance of Psichelite deposits which interested both Himmelheit and Vallendeur, pushing them to a race for obtaining the control of more and more mines until the Nova Cave Incident led to the start of the Eighteen Years' War.
